Student Programs Specialist

Working within The National WWII Museum’s Education Department and reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Programs, the Student Programs Specialist is responsible for the facilitation and planning of the Teaching and Learning’s inbound and outbound student travel programs, such as Normandy Academy and Student Leadership Academy. This position will coordinate national school outreach for traveling artifacts. The Student Programs Specialist works closely and collaboratively with all members of the Student Programs team and the wider Education Department to create programs, activities and experiences that connect World War II to today.

Requirements

  • Lead the planning and delivery of the Museum’s inbound and outbound student travel programs. Including but not limited to Normandy Academy, Student Leadership Academy and future student travel programs.
  • Coordinate booking and logistics for traveling artifact trunks to schools nationally.
  • Deliver in-school outreach programs across the state and region.
  • Assist Field Trip team with onsite facilitation on days with large student group attendance.
  • Develop and executes other student programs as assigned.
  • Able to travel nationally and internationally for student programs.
  • Able to work overtime during special events or heavy visitation periods or to meet deadlines.
  • Assist the Museum’s institutional advancement team to provide supporting documentation and data for fundraising proposals and reports.
  • Participate in assigned task forces, staff committees, projects, assignments, tasks, etc. as directed by the Assistant Director of Student Programs, the Director of Teaching and Learning, or the Associate Vice President of Education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors required; Masters preferred. Areas of study include education, history or public history, museum education, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of direct experience working with students. Certified educator preferred.
  • Experience chaperoning student trips internationally and/or domestically.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing large-scale programming.
  • Have a good understanding of the current trends, climate, and teaching practices in classrooms today, including social emotional learning.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills, particularly with K-12 students. Strong customer service skills, with demonstrated comfort and ability interacting with the public.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work overtime during special events or heavy programmatic periods or to meet deadlines.
